Our fasting protocols are centred on three-phase science-backed approach that is tailored to your biology and designed to trigger your body's natural rejuvenation process. 

Although people lose weight when fasting, fasting is not primarily about weight loss. Research shows that short fasts trigger a huge number of physiological changes that are hugely beneficial for the body promoting longevity, rejuvenation and optimal health.

If you have gotten into bad habits or are struggling with a health condition then fasting is a great way to reset your system, but even if you are in perfect health and eating well, a tailored fast can help you achieve greater levels physical and emotional wellbeing.

Built on the latest advances in rejuvenation science, the Bodhimaya Method approach to fasting will leave you feeling, and looking, fantastic by the end of your stay.

Our programmes are suitable for beginners right through to those who are more experienced with fasting and detox retreats. 

Each fast is tailored to your individual needs. Our fasting protocols go from simply reducing your portion size right through to only consuming broth and water. We will help you find the right type of fast for you.

If you are new to fasting then don't worry, many of our guests have never fasted before. We have one two awards for our approach to fasting, so you are in good hands. Tailored fasting is safe, much easier to do than you think and you'll be amazed by the results. 

We recommend our Functional Food Programme of three normal-portion-size meals a day for those who would prefer not to fast. 

At Cowdray House you only have the option of the Fasting Programme or the Functional Food Programme. There is no coffee, wine, wheat, dairy or sugar available. If you want to be away from all temptation, then this is the ideal retreat for you. 

At Villa La Coste, the programme is more flexible. If you are not fasting or on a strict detox or rejuvenation protocol then you can have a morning coffee or even a glass of wine with your meal, if you desire.

 

Phase One – Your Bespoke Fast

Your bespoke fast will use one of the following fasting methods. They have a similar effect on the body, but the quantity of food you eat, the type of food you eat, when you eat and the duration of the fast, varies. Your Nutritional Therapist will craft a bespoke protocol for you and support you throughout the process.

Juice Fasting - this consists of three individually tailored low-sugar juices a day and a delicious soup in the evening. Juice fasting gives your body a break from solid food and is ideal for those with gut issues or other health issues that may indicate a liquid-based fast. You can juice fast from three to eight days depending on the length of your retreat. 

Broth Fasting - this approach allows only bone or light vegetable soup to be consumed for three to fours days.

Intermittent Fasting - this approach centres of giving your body a sixteen hour break from food each day. You will have your evening meal at 8:30pm, skip breakfast the following morning and then have your lunch at 2pm.  Your meals can be regular portion sizes or smaller portions for those looking to increase the benefits of the process. 

Calorie Restriction - while all fasts restrict calories, this fast focuses on giving you three small meals a day that total no more than 250-300 calories per meal. 

Phase Two – ReIntroduction 

Once your fast is complete, for the final 2 days we will establish the kind of eating plan that your Nutritional Therapist advises you follow at home. 

Especially with juice and broth fasting, regular meal reintegration is incredibly important and is often overlooked. Food must be reintroduced slowly and in a particular way in order to maximise the benefits of the fast.

The meals you will enjoy on retreat are carefully designed to help restore the levels of good bacteria in your gut, support optimal health and carefully rebalance the delicate ecosystem of the body.

All of our food is delicious, gluten-free, dairy-free, grain-free, sugar-free, anti-inflammatory and highly nutritious.

Phase Three – Your Long-Term Wellness Programme

At the end of your stay you will be given a long-term wellbeing programme. This will outline the food, supplement and lifestyle choices that will help you build on the benefits of the retreat and continue your journey to optimal health once you return home.
